Established in 1993 Spectra Medical (Aust) P/L (previously named Laser Medics P/L) was founded on the application of the Nd:Yag laser in Urology, in particular laser prostatectomy. In 1996 we were selected by ESC Inc (Israeli company, original developers of IPL technology) as their Australian Distributor.
Thanks to the introduction of IPL to the world, ESC Inc experienced phenomenal growth, resulted in the takeover of companies such as Sharplan, Coherent, and a number of other international specialised laser manufactures, the organisation was eventually renamed “Lumenis”. We were fortunate enough to be there for this incredible journey. Our business was now not just surgical laser, we were now involved with ophthalmic laser and Aesthetic devices.
In 2001 the Lumenis side of our business was purchased by a leading Australian Company to which we contracted to for the next 5 years to assist in managing and promoting their product line . We had built the Lumenis business to such a level that in 2006 Lumenis made the decided to come direct in Australasia.
In 2007 we were again approached by the original founders of ESC to represent them in a new venture, this time in the Home use IPL products, the company was Silk’n (Homeskinovations). We took this product into retail shopping and helped introduce to the world the use of effective home use aesthetic devices.
The aesthetic home business quickly became a saturated market, with competitors such as Phillips who has strong retail ties, so it was time for us to reconsider our future.
In 2016 we returned back to where our strengths laid, medical and aesthetic equipment. The world’s supply market in recent years has experienced a dramatic shift. Quality Asian products, especially from South Korea were providing local doctors and clinics quality choices in technology without the previously high price tag. We recognised such an option was well overdue and hence we implemented due diligence, took time to look at the many options available and selected manufacturers with proven record and medical CE devices to ensure we met our local TGA requirements.
We are accredited by theDepartment of Radiation and Health in Queensland to assess class 4 laser devices and laser treatment facilities. We also hold by invitation, a position on the Department of Radiation and Health advisory board, specifically relating to the use of laser in medicine and aesthetics.
At Spectra Medical (Aust) P/L we are constantly evaluating new opportunities with partners of quality products that will complement our existing product lines, to best service the needs of our customers.
